Community Outreach
Turningpoint provides training programs on domestic and sexual violence to our local communities in Pierce and St. Croix Counties. We organize and implement specific trainings for businesses, hospitals, police officers, community clubs, clergy and other social service agencies.
Community Prevention
Turningpoint staff presents prevention programs at elementary, middle and high schools in Pierce and St. Croix Counties. A detailed description of each presentation is listed below.
Safe Touch (K-5th): The objective is to identify different types of touch and feelings associated with each, explain safety rules for touches that do not feel safe, practice responding to confusing touch sitations, identify parts of the body, and practice saying "NO"
Protective Behaviors (K-8th): The objective is to learn that everybody has the right to feel safe at all times; nothing is so awful you cannot talk about it with someone you trust, and to learn the body's early warning signs.
Dating: Domestic Violence (6th-12th): Based on the dating relationship: define the four types of abuse, learn the effects of abuse and what to do.
Dating: Healthy Relationships (6th-12th): Based on the dating relationship: discuss what comprises a healthy relationship verses an unhealthy relationship. Students will learn about communication and conflict resolution.
Sexual Assault and Date Rape (7th-12th): The objective is to define sexual assault and date rape, present statistics, discuss consent, discuss gender roles and socialization, and learn what to do if it happens to you.
"Walking the Walk" (9th-12th): A hands on exercise that allows students to experience the issues and emotions that survivors of sexual violence face everday, and understand the complexity of sexual violence.
Child Abuse (9th-12th): The objective is to define types of abuse and neglect, the effects of abuse on children, warning signs and symptoms, and how to report suspected child abuse.
Make a Difference (School Staff): Covers many topics including domestic violence, sexual assault and child abuse, as well as the effects on children and early warning signs in children and parents of abuse.
