Legal Advocacy

Turningpoint offers legal advocacy to victims of domestic and sexual abuse who are seeking legal support or assistance.  These services include:

Restraining Orders: We can give basic overview of the necessary steps to filling out and filing a restraining order.  Upon your request, an advocate can accompany you to all court proceedings.

Courtroom Advocacy: Consists of an advocate acting as your service respresentative during a court proceeding by providing support, safety planning at court, acting as a barrier between you and the abusive partner, and explaining court proceedings and the court process.

Crime Victims' Compensation: We provide information and applications for Wisconsin's program to assist innocent victims with certain crime related expenses.

 

Divorce Packets: You can receive them for free and receive some explanations of terms and procedures.

Custody and Visitation Paperwork: You can receive information and resources regarding custody and visitation.

Judicare: This is Wisconsin's low income legal assistance program which can provide legal representation for eligible residents.  Applications are available at Turningpoint, and if you qualify, a list of attorneys who accept Judicare is available.

Attorney List: We can provide a list of local attorneys along with their specialties and who provides free consultations.
